Social and Cognitive Aspects of the Vulnerability to Political Misinformation

In the last few years, especially after Brexit referendum and 2016 U.S. elections, there has been a surge in academic interest for misinformation disinformation. Social, cognitive, political scientists' work on these phenomena focused two main aspects: Individuals' (and by extension societies') vulnerability to misinformation; Factors interventions that can increase individuals' resistance misinformation. this article, we offer critical review of psychological research pertaining aspects. Drawing review, highlight an emerging tension relevant literature. Indeed, current state art literature reflects combined operation opposing constructs: excess gullibility one hand vigilance other. We argue conceptualization is important both advancing theories societies' designing prospective programs. conclude with proposing what, our view, are most promising avenues future field.
